MU Extension Hosts Woodland Workshop, Twilight Tour

COLUMBIA, MISSOURI

   University of Missouri Extension’s Woodland Steward program will host a June 27-28 workshop with a twilight tour demonstrating woodland management practices, says University of Missouri Extension natural resources specialist Sarah Havens.

   The program begins with a virtual session on woodland management tools, 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 27, via Zoom. The following evening, participants meet in person 6-8:30 p.m. at the MU Wurdack Extension and Education Center in Cook Station for a tour of recent examples of forest management practices.

   “Landowners have a hard time picturing forest management on the ground, so this is an opportunity to see firsthand what the practices look like and learn the benefits” Havens says.

   The $25 fee includes a light meal prior to the tour.

   Missouri has 15 million acres of privately owned forestland, and management on the private acres is just as important as on public lands, Havens says. Good forest management on private lands benefits wildlife and forest health in the state, she says.
