Ag Is For All Event Invites High School Students To Discover Agriculture
LEXINGTON, KEN.
Agriculture is a broad and diverse industry full of little-known professions. The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment wants to show potential students that it has something for everyone.
The college’s Office of Diversity is hosting Ag is for All, Oct. 26 on the UK campus in Lexington. The event is geared toward underrepresented high school juniors and seniors.
“In my role, I have been observing barriers that students have faced in preparing to apply for, and navigate through, college. The Office of Diversity created the event to be intentional in assisting students as they prepare to apply for college,” said Mia Farrell, assistant dean for diversity. “It is important that we give students the tools they need to succeed before attending college.”
The day will begin at 9 a.m. EDT with a welcome from Nancy Cox, college dean and Carmen Agouridis, associate dean for instruction.
Sessions before lunch will include overviews of college majors, scholarships and deadlines, student financial aid, an explanation of the Free Applications for Federal Student Aid and a panel of college faculty and students. Participants will also learn about the Living and Learning Program.
After lunch, participants will tour the university, and the event will conclude at 3 p.m.
“Students should attend the conference to get resources on how to prepare for college and how to navigate the university,” Farrell said. “This program will also allow students to begin to build their network and build relationships before attending the university. It is important to begin the process as early as possible to prepare our present and future leaders.”
