7/7/21 Cattle Sale Market Report
Exceptional cattle in yesterday‘s sale pushed the market to some highs that cattleman haven’t been able to see on their check stubs in several months. The drastic correction in corn prices this week increased the demand for both home-raised and backgrounded feeders.
Overall the market was $4/cwt-$9/cwt higher while some fancy preconditioned drafts reached as much as $15/cwt higher.

Compared to two weeks ago steers and heifers sold 4.00-9.00 higher some fancy pre -vac calves sold 15.00 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls sold 2.00 higher; Demand good and supply heavy. Supply included: 93% Feeder Cattle (52% Steers, 42% Heifers, 6% Bulls); 6% Slaughter Cattle (69% Cows, 31% Bulls); 1% Replacement Cattle (69% Bred Cows, 31% Cow- Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 35%.

Compared to last week, a very light test this week as auctions were closed early in the week for July 4th holiday with late week sale of steer and heifer calves lightly tested with 600-750 lb steers and heifers over 800 lbs trading with a firm to higher undertone Slaughter cows sold steady to firm. Supply included: 80% Feeder Cattle (53% Steers, 46% Heifers, 1% Bulls); 20% Slaughter Cattle (20% Steers, 8% Dairy Steers, 63% Cows, 9% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 70%.
