New Weed Control Methods Showcased At July 8 Field Day

COLUMBIA, MO.

   University of Missouri Extension scientists will give updates on weeds, diseases, pests and cover crops July 8 at the annual Pest Management Field Day at the MU Bradford Research Center, Columbia.

   “If you’ve never been before, this is an event that grows and gets better each year, and you won’t want to miss it,” says MU Extension weed scientist Kevin Bradley.

   Registration starts by 7:45 a.m. Wagon tours of research plots showcasing herbicide treatment and weed management programs in corn and soybean begin at 8:30 a.m.

   Bradley says those taking the tours will hear from university scientists about the latest in cover crops and weed control, including recent updates on Xtend and Enlist technologies.

   Bradley’s team will share research on nonchemical weed methods being tested by MU scientists, including weed electrocution and on-combine seed destruction devices.

   MU Extension plant pathologist Kaitlyn Bissonnette will discuss foliar fungicide use on soybean. Entomologist Kevin Rice gives the latest on soybean gall midge and stink bugs.

   Extension specialists will also discuss the use of weather apps for timing of pesticide applications.
