Compared to the last special two weeks ago, (last week was a Special Bred Cow auction) feeder steers weighing 450-500 lbs sold $2.00-4.00 lower, with 500-550 lbs selling $5.00-7.00 lower, 550-800 lbs sold mostly $5.00-10.00 lower with spots $12.00 lower on the 750-800 lb steers. Feeder heifers weighing 400-500 lbs sold steady to $4.00 lower, 500-600 lbs sold mostly steady to firm with two weeks ago, and a part load of 625 lb heifers with good weighing conditions sold with a firm undertone, 650-700 lbs sold steady to $4.00 lower and over 700 lbs were lightly tested. Overall the heifer market was more active on the better quality 500-660 lb heifers selling with good demand. CME cattle futures had a rough week with April and May Feeder Cattle contracts closing $5.75-6.00 lower and fat cattle trade this week mostly steady to $3.00 lower ranging from $118.00-123.00 depending on different regions. Corn prices have escalated rapidly this week pressuring the feeder cattle market. Slaughter cows on a good offering sold steady to 3.00 lower. Supply included: 82 percent Feeder Cattle (44 percent Steers, 52 percent Heifers, 4 percent Bulls); 18 percent Slaughter Cattle (13 percent Steers, 7 percent Heifers, 72 percent Cows, 8 percent Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 51 percent.
