Alliance Field Day Covers Growing Quality Forage

PINEY WOODS, MISS.

   Farmers preparing for the growing season will benefit from a wide variety of topics at the Alliance of Sustainable Farms field day March 29.

   Subjects include spring preparations for grazing, growing quality hay, cover crops, and native plants and pollinators. Participants will also learn how to calibrate a no-till drill.

   Rocky Lemus, research professor and forage specialist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, will be one of the featured presenters. James Austin, a wildlife biologist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, will also speak.

   The meeting will be streamed live on Zoom from the alliance’s demonstration farm from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It is free of charge, but registration is required. To register, email Alliance manager Keith Benson at AllianceofSustainableFarms@gmail.com.

   After registering, check for a confirmation email with the agenda and details on how to sign in. Limited in-person participation may be allowed, following strict social distancing protocols. Anyone who wishes to attend in person will need to make the request when registering and will be notified whether on-site participation will be allowed.
