Groundwater Withdrawal Rights To Be Discussed In Ag Law Webinar

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK.

   Many agricultural producers rely on groundwater for irrigation, but regulations for withdrawing it can vary from state to state.

   “Agricultural irrigation, which accounts for the largest use of groundwater in the United States, often requires the use of high- capacity wells,” said Linda Reid, owner of Water365, LLC. “The regulation of these wells is left largely to states, resulting in significant variation across the United States.”

   Reid will discuss high-capacity wells and their regulations in a free webinar hosted by the National Agricultural Law Center.

   “This webinar will explore the various legal approaches governing the right to withdraw groundwater, as well as the regulatory frameworks in place for groundwater withdrawals via high-capacity wells,” she said.

   “The rights and regulations for withdrawing groundwater are really dependent on states, so this webinar will be very helpful to producers across the United States,” said Harrison Pittman, Director of the NALC. “Linda will also cover recent legal decisions and how they will affect these practices.”
