Friday's auction was a Special Bred Cow sale with a light offering of feeder cattle not well tested with last Friday's heavy receipts, but the overall undertone was sharply lower on all weights, with several consignments of unweaned feeders. Bred cows sold with moderate demand mostly 3-6 yrs in the 2nd-3rd stage, several young pairs top quality mostly 5 year old cows few bred back in the first stage with nice 200-250 lb calves sold with good demand. Large offering of slaughter cows sold steady to $2.00 lower and a large offering of slaughter steers and heifers sold $3.00-$4.00 lower compared to last week's large offering of near same numbers. Supply included: 39 percent Feeder Cattle (39 percent Steers, 49 percent Heifers, 12 percent Bulls); 34 percent Slaughter Cattle (22 percent Steers, 15 percent Heifers, 59 percent Cows, 4 percent Bulls); 27 percent Replacement Cattle (63 percent Bred Cows, 19 percent Bred Heifers, 18 percent Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 47 percent.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers under 600 lbs sold $1.00-4.00 higher, the 600-800 lbs offering sold $5.00-8.00 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady; Demand uneven and supply moderate. Supply included: 84 percent Feeder Cattle (42 percent Steers, 44 percent Heifers, 14 percent Bulls); 14 percent Slaughter Cattle (89 percent Cows, 11 percent Bulls); 3 percent Replacement Cattle (90 percent Bred Cows, 10 percent Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 48 percent.
