May Is Beef Month COLUMBIA, MO.
“May is Beef Month” is celebrated nationwide in May, including in Missouri. This is a time to recognize Missouri’s beef producers and all they do to provide wholesome, great tasting beef for their families and for consumers. The U.S. is the world’s largest beef producer. The U.S. alone provides 20 percent of the world’s beef but with only 6 percent of the world’s cattle. Missouri ranks 3rd in beef production in the nation with 2.06 million head, with more than 45,000 farms with beef cattle.
In addition to the economic benefit beef provides to the state, beef has an important role at the dinner table providing the fuel consumers need to live a healthy and active lifestyle. A three-ounce serving of beef provides 10% or more of 10 essential nutrients for less than 10% of the daily value for calories. More specifically, a three-ounce serving of beef contains nearly 50% of the daily value for protein, which is important in building and repairing muscle.
MBIC has several digital activities and events coming up this month in recognition. They will be hosting a Facebook contest and promoting beef through radio segments across the state, as well as sharing cooking videos across Facebook and Instagram. MBIC has partnered with Training with Janelle to host exercise videos on Facebook during the month to celebrate the strength beef provides. MBIC has also partnered with Mo Beef Mo Kids to share a beef activity page, perfect for adults and kids alike!
