MSU Ag Leadership Program Seeks Members For Next Class

Registration is open through July 31 for enrollment in the second class of Mississippi’s premier agricultural leadership program.
The Thad Cochran Agricultural Leadership Program, or TCALP, takes a small group of participants through a series of rigorous seminars over 22 months. The professionals selected for the program will gain skills and knowledge in entrepreneurship, agribusiness, leadership theory, public policy and global markets.
Michael Newman, director of the Mississippi State University School of Human Sciences, is the TCALP program director.
“TCALP welcomes early-career producers and allied agricultural professionals to expand their leadership skills through nine seminars filling 35 days of intensive instruction on economic literacy, community decision-making and policy-making related to agriculture,” Newman said.
“This is a unique opportunity to broaden the perspective of these leaders by expanding their exposure to different areas of agricultural production, finance and policy development, with a focus on critical issues facing agriculture today and into the future,” he said. “We will help them develop leadership skills that build on their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.”
The MSU Extension Service developed the program with support from the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation. Participants will visit Washington, D.C., and fly overseas to see agricultural systems in another country before the conclusion of the program in 2021.
The first TCALP class is scheduled to graduate in October. All should leave the program with an expanded awareness of agriculture on the local, national and global levels.
