   Compared to the last feeder auction two weeks ago, feeder steers on alimited test weighing 500-700 lbs sold with a sharply higher undertone, best test on feeder heifers weighing 550-600 lbs sold $5.00-7.00 higher and 600-650 lbs sold $3.00-5.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold steady to $3.00 lower. Demand was good with supply light to moderate with several nice groups and packages of good quality steers weighing 600-700 lbs and heifers weighing 550-650 lbs all selling with active buying. Cattle on Feed Report was released Friday afternoon with August 1 inventory the highest since series began in 1996 totaling 11.1 million head at 105 percent; Placements came in at 108 percent and Marketings at 105 percent. Slaughter cows accounted for near 18 percent of the total receipts, with slaughter steers and heifers accounting for near 8 percent. Feeder cattle consisted of 55 percent steers, 45 percent heifers and 60 percent weighing over 600 lbs.

   Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold $1.00-7.00 lower with quality being less attractive than last week. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to $1.00 lower. Supply moderate. Cows made up approximately 17 percent of the run, 83 percent feeders. Steers made up approximately 33 percent of the offering, 48 percent heifers with 19 percent feeder bulls. Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 23 percent.

Cows made up approximately 22 percent of the run, 88 percent feeders. Steers made up approximately 30 percent of the offering, 41 percent heifers with 29 percent feeder bulls. Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 20 percent.
