Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to $3.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold steady and bulls sold $2.00 higher; Demand good and supply light. Cows made up approximately 12 percent of the run, 88 percent feeders. Steers made up approximately 20 percent of the offering, 48 percent heifers with 32 percent feeder bulls. Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 22 percent.

Compared to two weeks ago, a light test of 400-500 lb steer calves sold with a firm undertone, with 600-800 lbs steers on a light test trading with a weak to lower undertone. Feeder heifers weighing 500-700 lbs sold mostly $2.00-4.00 lower on comparable sales. Slaughter cows sold mostly $2.00-4.00 lower. Demand was moderate to good with supply moderate. CME cattle futures this week were on the bearish side as fed cattle prices traded lower with cash prices in the Northern Plains ranging from $109.00-112.00 mostly $2.00-3.00 lower. One positive was the USDA crop production report released Friday had corn production forecast at 14.6 billion bushels down less than one percent from last year and yields estimated at 178.4 bpa up 1.8 bpa from last year. Slaughter cows accounted for near 15 percent of the total receipts. Feeder supply consisted of 51 percent steers, 49 percent heifers and 63 percent weighing over 600 lbs.
