Eastern Missouri Livestock Auction

   Compared to the special two weeks ago, steer and heifer calves under 500 lbs were lightly tested but sold with a firm to higher undertone, steer calves weighing 500-650 lbs sold mostly $10.00-12.00 higher, spots $15.00 higher on the 550-650 lb steers, 650-800 lbs steers traded $3.00-8.00 higher, over 800 lbs were not tested but a higher undertone was evident. Feeder heifers weighing 500-550 lbs sold $5.00-8.00 higher, with 550-750 lbs selling $2.00-5.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm. Demand was good on a heavy offering of feeders. There were many strings and part loads of top quality steer and heifer calves and yearlings selling on and active market. CME cattle futures shook off Thursdays collapse and roared back with triple digit gains. Fed cattle trade was mostly $3.00-4.00 higher at $126.00-127.00.  Slaughter cows and slaughter cattle accounted for 10 percent of the total receipts. Feeder supply consisted of 64 percent steers and bulls, 36 percent heifers and 73 percent weighing over 600 lbs.

Cows made up approximately 15 percent of the run, 85 percent feeders. Steers made up approximately 48 percent of the offering, 43 percent heifers with 9 percent feeder bulls. Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 38 percent.
