Computers-On-Farm Meeting, Jan. 12-13, Says Bring The Kids To Help Mom And Dad
COLUMBIA, MO.
At the annual Computers on the Farm conference, participants add as much as planned speakers.
Users share ideas at the meeting, Jan. 12-13, 2018, at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, says John Travlos, meeting planner. Topics are for beginners and advanced users.
Farmers bring software and apps they develop for their own farms.
Participants also bring their own hardware. That can be computers, laptops, handhelds and even digital cameras. They get help as needed.
“By the way, this is hands-on learning,” says Travlos, who heads the University of Missouri Agricultural Electronic Bulletin Board (AgEBB.) That is in MU Extension Commercial Agriculture.
In recent years, FFA chapters come to learn. Many chapters develop their own programs and hardware. “They get very creative,” Travlos says.
This year brings a 4-H Technology Showcase on Friday night and Saturday. Members, families and volunteers can see 4-H projects in GIS (geographic information systems), computer science and robotics.

“Signup is online, of course,” Travlos says. But mail, fax and phone registrations are taken. Call Travlos at 573-882-4827.
On-site sign-in starts at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs into the night, ending Saturday afternoon.
“This is a bring-the-family event at the Lake of the Ozarks,” Travlos says. “It’s a farm getaway.” Room rates are $69 for single or doubles. Ask for the special rate at 573-343-3131.
There will be a trade show where hardware and software can be tested. Vendors can rent tables.
