Compared to the last special two weeks ago, steer calves under 550 lbs were lightly tested but traded with a firm undertone, steer calves weighing 550-700 lbs sold steady to instances $2.00 higher on the 600-650 lb steers, yearlings weighing 700-850 lbs traded mostly $1.00-3.00 lower. Feeder heifers weighing 450-500 lbs sold $5.00-8.00 higher on comparable sales, with 500-650 lb heifers selling steady to $3.00 higher with most advance on the 5 weight heifers, over 650 lbs sold mostly steady on a light test. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm on a large offering of slaughter cows. Demand was moderate to good with a heavy supply of feeder cattle. Overall quality was good on steers and heifers with the bulk of the feeders weighing 550-850 lbs with two pot loads of heavy yearling steers weighing over 950 lbs. Cattle on Feed Report was released this afternoon with January 1 reported at 100 percent, placements at 118 percent and Marketings at 107 percent. Placements are on the bearish side, being considerably higher than expected, with the rest coming in at industry estimates. Slaughter cows accounted for near 10 percent of the total receipts. Feeder supply consisted of 69 percent steers and bulls, 31 percent heifers and near 69 percent weighing over 600 lbs.

Cows made up approximately 11 percent of the run, 89 percent feeders. Steers made up approximately 29 percent of the offering, 52 percent heifers with 19 percent feeder bulls. Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 15 percent.
