   Much lighter run of feeder cattle this week, markets have been dropping again. According to the buyers the market here was strong compared to what they should be buying them for. We will call it steady to $17 lower, quality a contributing factor.

   Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold $9-15 lower with a wide variety in quality. Slaughter cows and bulls sold $1-2 lower. Demand light and supply moderate. Cows made up approximately 15 percent of the run, 85 percent feeders. Steers made up approximately 48 percent of the offering, 42 percent heifers with 10 percent feeder bulls. Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 22 percent.

   Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold $3-15 lower with lower quality in the offering. Slaughter cows and bulls sold $2 lower. Demand and supply light. Slaughter cows made up approximately 11 percent of the run, 89 percent feeders. Steers made up approximately 32 percent of the offering, 38 percent heifers with 30 percent feeder bulls. Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 18 percent.

   Compared to the last special two weeks ago, feeder steers under 700 lbs sold mostly $15-20 lower with spots $25 lower. Heifers weighing under 700 lbs traded $10-15 lower with spots $18 lower, a light test of 7 weight heifers sold $6-8 lower. Slaughter cows sold steady to firm with spots $2 higher on the lean cows. Cattle futures this week have been very volatile trading sharply lower with fed cattle also trading with sharp declines pressuring the feeder cattle market. Overall quality on feeders was not as attractive as two weeks with the bulk of the feeders weighing 450-650 lbs all selling with light to moderate demand. Slaughter cows accounted for near 15 percent of the total receipts. The feeder supply consisted of 51 percent steers, 49 percent heifers and near 34 percent weighing over 600 lbs.
