UT To Conduct Southeast Tennessee Beef Summit April 29

ATHENS, TENN.
Beef cattle farming remains Tennessee’s top agricultural commodity, and when you combine beef with dairy, our state has more than two million cattle and 45,000 cattle operations.
Farmers can learn the latest information about beef production, herd management and marketing, and hear about the most recent cattle research from the UT Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) and UT Extension at the Southeast Tennessee Beef Summit, scheduled for April 29, 2016, at the McMinn County Expo Center in Athens (inside the Athens Regional Park).
Registration begins at 8 a.m., and 35-minute educational sessions are scheduled from 8:40 to 11:55 a.m. Speakers from UTIA, DV Auction, and True Test will be conducting the morning sessions. The morning sessions will be followed by a catered lunch. Corbitt Wall of DV Auction will give the keynote address after lunch.
Topics for the program will include the 2016 cattle market outlook, electric fencing considerations, feeder calf management/marketing and a freeze branding demonstration. Presenters will include Dr. Bobby Simpson, Director of UT’s East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Knoxville. For more information and a flyer go online to extension.tennessee.edu/mcminn. “This summit will give cattle and forage producers updated information about production techniques, management and marketing – along with UT research updates,” says Tim Woods, UT Extension Director for McMinn County, and one of the organizers of the event. “It will also include a large trade show so producers can see the latest products, new technologies and equipment related to the agricultural industry.”
