IPM Training Is March 2

The 2016 University of Kentucky Integrated Pest Management Training is Wednesday, March 2, at the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center at 1205 Hopkinsville Street in Princeton, KY. Registration begins at 8 a.m. CST. Program will start at 9 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m.
Specialists from the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment will review problems and challenges faced by producers during the 2015 growing season and discuss new pest and problems they may face in 2016, including weed resistance and management, corn and soybean disease management, the sugarcane aphid and exotic insects.
Tammy Horn, state apiarist, will present information on the managed pollinator protection plan. With guidance from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, beekeepers and stakeholders are developing a comprehensive pollinator protection plan for Kentucky that will include best management practices for beekeepers, chemical applicators, managed land users, industrial sites, and highway rights of way.
The IPM Training is approved for five continuing education units for Certified Crop Advisers, which include three in pest management and two in crop management. Pesticide applicators can receive two general and one specific continuing education hours in categories 1A, 10, and 12.
