Illinois Forage Institute Set For Feb. 18
CARBONDALE, ILL.
The Illinois Forage Institute will be held on Thursday, February 18 at the Southern Illinois University Research Farm in Carbondale, Illinois. The educational program, beginning at 9 am and concluding at 4:30 pm, will focus on managing hayland and pastures and utilizing forages for livestock. The program will also include commercial exhibits focusing on the forage industry. Companies interested in setting up forage related commercial exhibits should contact Dave Gentry at (309) 846-8320.
Topics to be presented in the morning include new developments in forage grasses and clovers, hay storage and feeding methods that minimize losses, and soil fertility management in hay and pasture forage systems. Afternoon topics include Economics of making or buying hay, weed and brush management for grazing systems, and info on stock piling fescue successfully.
Cost for the educational program is $15 per person for IFGC members and $25 per person for non-members. Pre-registration is requested by February 12. Cost will be $20 and $30 respectively per person after February 12 and at the door on February 18. Registration covers a noon meal and forage presentation handout material.
