UT’s New Field Day Focuses On Animal Production
WALLAND, TENN.
On October 22nd, when the University of Tennessee’s East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center opens its gates at the center’s Little River Animal and Environmental Unit, everyone is invited to visit. It’s the facility’s first-ever Ag in the Foothills Field Day.
Visitors are invited to tour the Walland facility from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The facility’s research efforts focus on the production of high quality milk in Holstein cows, as well as studies that evaluate the interaction between animal agriculture and the environment. These studies have the potential to benefit all livestock producers, and at the field day, the public will have a chance to see how.
The free event will feature educational sessions of interest to beef, dairy, equine and small ruminant producers as well as presentations and tours focusing on weeds and herbicides, waste management and GPS on the farm.
The day will include a trade show, and lunch will be available for purchase to benefit the Blount County Youth Livestock Association. No preregistration is required, but those who arrive early will be treated to biscuits and coffee while supplies last.
