Grazing Workshop Set For March 19

URBANA, ILL.
   University of Illinois Extension and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service will host a one-day grazing workshop on Thursday, March 19 at the Clark County Extension office, 15493 State Hwy, Marshall, IL. 
   The workshop will focus on improving grazing systems, incorporating cover crops into grazing forges, and improving grazing management practices. The all-day meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.
   Topics and speakers for the day will include:
   • Introduction to management intensive systems, Roger Staff, NRCS grazing specialist
   • Water and fence (durable and economic) to fit your pasture, Matt Bunger, NRCS grazing specialist
   • Benefits of legumes in cool season grasses, Ed Ballard, retired U of I Extension 
   • Weed management in rotational grazing systems, Robert Bellm, U of I Extension
   • Extending the grazing season with cover crops and annuals, Dean Oswald, retired U of I Extension 
   • Grazing cover crops : Avoiding animal health issues, Dean Oswald, retired U of I Extension
   • Silvopasture: An agroforestry practice (what it is and what it’s not), Jay Hayek, U of I Extension
