Friday's sale going into the Labor Day weekend and with the extreme heat this week had very light receipts this week. Feeders were not well tested selling in small packages and singles. Slaughter cows on a light test were mostly average and low yielding cows selling mostly 3.00-5.00 lower. Supply included: 63% Feeder Cattle (35% Steers, 26% Heifers, 39% Bulls); 37% Slaughter Cattle (15% Steers, 74% Cows, 12% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 22%.

The market held together better than expected even with mostly plain quality cattle and the Oklahoma heat. Cattle futures closed higher. Holstein steers traded 4.00-6.00 higher on high choice and 3.00 higher on low choice and selects. Feeder steers & heifers traded lower on a light run with extreme heat on the better quality on medium-large 1-2 (Market quotes are on mostly unvaccinated cattle)and 5.00 lower light run on lower quality medium-short 2-3. Slaughter cows traded lower on better overnight cows with good lean cows trading lower with extreme heat and 2.00-4.00 lower on slower cows. Slaughter bulls traded steady.
