Compared to last week, too few feeder cattle of any class for a market test. Slaughter steers and heifers sold 3.00-4.00 higher and slaughter cows steady to firm on a light supply. Overall supply very light with the demand good. Live and feeder futures both ended sharply higher on Friday as packers are spending more money to gather cattle for next weeks kill. Supply included: 75% Feeder Cattle (26% Steers, 56% Heifers, 19% Bulls); 25% Slaughter Cattle (18% Steers, 7% Heifers, 71% Cows, 4% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 55%.

Supply included: 78% Feeder Cattle (48% Steers, 41% Heifers, 11% Bulls); 14% Slaughter Cattle (85% Cows, 15% Bulls); 8% Replacement Cattle (83% Bred Cows, 6% Bred Heifers, 10% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 31%.

The annual World Livestock Auctioneering Contest was held at ONSY today. Very large crowd of both buyers and sellers was on hand. All classes of feeder cattle and calves sold with very good demand. Quality average to attractive. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (68% Steers, 31% Heifers, 0% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 85%.

Holstein steers traded steady to 1.00 higher on high choice and unevenly steady on low choice and selects.  Feeder steers & heifers traded stronger on medium-large 1-2 (Market quotes are on mostly unvaccinated cattle) and trader higher on medium-short 2-3. Slaughter cows traded 3.00-12.00 higher on better overnight cows with good lean cows trading 3.00-10.00 higher and 3.00 higher on slower cows. Slaughter bulls traded unevenly steady.
