STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI

Mississippi State University is hosting a field day at one of its research stations on June 5 for row crop growers interested in learning more about high-speed planting and advanced planting technologies.

The MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station will present the Advanced Planting Technologies field day and training at the MAFES Black Belt Experiment Station in Brooksville.

Producers will have a firsthand view of advanced planting equipment and fields planted with various configurations of advanced planters. Strip plots for high-speed planted corn, soybean and cotton will be shown, as well as a look at residue management systems with high-speed planting into cover crops.

Additional topics include modification of speed planters for high-residue systems, dynamic downforce components, planter maintenance and calibration, and pros and cons of advanced planting technologies. MSU Extension specialists and industry leaders will be on hand to speak with growers.

The field day will also offer three Certified Crop Advisor Continuing Education Units in crop management. The Black Belt Experiment Station is located at 2315 U.S. Highway 45 in Brooksville. The free event begins at 9 a.m. and includes lunch.
