Compared to the last special two weeks ago, steer calves weighing 400-600 lbs and heifer calves weighing 450-650 lbs sold 5.00-15.00 higher, with 600-750 lbs steers selling fully steady to 5.00 higher and over 750 lbs on a light test sold steady to firm. Feeder heifers weighing over 650 lbs on comparable sales sold steady. Demand was good on a moderate offering with buyers still very aggressive to purchase feeders. Feeder cattle this week were carrying more flesh than the last special, especially those weighing over 600 lbs. Slaughter cows on and active market sold 4.00-8.00 higher, with a couple high dressing bulls topping at 170.00 per/lb. Cattle on Feed report was issued Friday afternoon with On Feed coming in at 101 percent, Placements were higher than expected at 110 percent the highest for February since the series began in 1996, Marketings came in at 103 percent. Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (47% Steers, 48% Heifers, 6% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (10% Steers, 5% Heifers, 70% Cows, 15% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 52%.

Supply included: 86% Feeder Cattle (38% Steers, 54% Heifers, 8% Bulls); 12% Slaughter Cattle (79% Cows, 21% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (81% Bred Cows, 13% Bred Heifers, 6% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 23%.

Holstein steers traded unevenly steady on high choice and 1.00 lower on low choice and selects.  Feeder steers & heifers traded strong steady on medium-large 1-2 (Market quotes are on mostly unvaccinated cattle) and 5.00 higher on medium-short 2-3. Slaughter cows traded 2.00-5.00 higher on better cows with good lean cows 2.00-4.00 higher and 2.00-3.00 higher on slower cows. Slaughter bulls traded steady to 3.00 higher.
