Eastern Missouri Livestock Auction

Receipts: 1960; Last Week: 710; Year Ago: 2400

Compared to the last special two weeks ago, steer calves weighing 400-500 lbs sold with a firm undertone on a light test, with 500-550 lbs selling firm to 5.00 higher, 550-750 lbs sold 5.00-10.00 higher, spots 15.00 higher on the 600-650 lb steers, over 800 lbs sold with a firm undertone. Feeder heifers weighing 500-600 lbs and 700-750 lbs sold 5.00-10.00 higher, with 600-700 lbs selling steady to firm and over 800 lbs were not tested. Slaughter cows sold 3.00-7.00 higher. Demand was good on a moderate offering with trade very active on a good quality offering of steers and heifers weighing 500-750 lbs as the market continues to see active bidding for all classes of livestock. It was an exciting day at EMC with a large crowd on hand, as EMC held their first Boarder Wars Livestock Auctioneer Contest. Contestants had to auction at a livestock market in Missouri or a state that boarders Missouri with 27 contestants entered for the competition. Preliminaries started at 9:00 with 27 contestants competing for the top 10 positions that would compete for the Championship after lunch. Sixto Paiz from Lubbock, TX was awarded Champion with Ben Weber form Lone Jack, MO the reserve champion and Lynn Languardt from Chapman, KS the runner-up. Justin Dodson from Welch, OK won the People's Choice Award voted on by the people to raise money for First Candle an organization committed to the elimination of SIDS as a very generous amount was raised for this good cause. Supply included: 85% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 41% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 15% Slaughter Cattle (9% Steers, 70%.

Holstein steers traded 3.00 higher on high choice and steady on low choice and selects.  Feeder steers & heifers traded strong to steady on medium-large 1-2 (Market quotes are on mostly unvaccinated cattle) and 5.00 higher on medium-short 2-3.
