Session Offered On Funding For Small And Beginning Farmers

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

Small and beginning farmers and ranchers can learn about funding for climate-smart fieldscapes through a Dec. 12 webinar from University of Missouri Extension. The program runs 6-8 p.m.

Climate-smart fieldscapes use regenerative agriculture practices for small-scale and urban farms. Practices include providing habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects, use of no-till or strip-till specialty crop production, mulching, fencing and cover crops.

MU Extension horticulturist Debi Kelly says program presenters are from MU Extension, MU’s Center for Regenerative Agriculture and the USDA St. Louis Urban Hub. Attendees will learn how to apply for up to $10,000 in grant funds to implement and maintain climate-smart practices over a three-year period.

Presenters also will explain USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service cost-share programs for small farms.
