2023 Horizon Ag Arkansas Field Day Set For Aug. 17 In Harrisburg
HARRISBURG, ARKANSAS
With high-yielding CLL18 joining proven top performers like CLL16 and PVL03 this season, and promising new Arkansas-bred varieties like PVL04 and CLM05 in the pipeline, the 2023 Horizon Ag Arkansas Field Day is the place to find out about varieties that help farmers set the stage for higher yield, better milling quality, and overall improved profit potential.
The event location is the University of Arkansas Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center in Harrisburg. Tours start at 5 p.m., the field day will include presentations from university researchers, industry specialists, and rice farmers, followed by dinner.
“The University of Arkansas is a strong rice breeding partner of Horizon Ag, as evidenced by new CLL18 and other elite varieties coming to market in 2024 and beyond,” says Dr. Tim Walker, Horizon Ag general manager. “We are excited to have the opportunity to provide more details about these top-performing new lines and what they can mean to farmers who are looking to achieve a higher return on their investment.”
Farmers will have more access next season to CLL18, an Arkansas-bred variety that had a very limited launch in 2023. CLL18 is already beginning to develop a reputation for consistently challenging hybrid yield potential but at a lower seed price, and demand for the variety is expected to be high.
PVL04 is a new Provisia® variety available for planting in 2024. It has shown to be competitive with PVL03 in terms of yield potential, milling quality, and disease resistance, providing another option when it comes to controlling costly weedy rice and resistant red rice and grasses.
Looking ahead to 2025, Clearfield® medium-grain variety CLM05 is expected to be available. CLM05 has outperformed current commercial cultivars CLM04 and Jupiter in grain yield, disease resistance, and lodging resistance in University of Arkansas research, helping meet consumer needs at a time when U.S. demand for medium-grain rice is on the rise.
