Seed Course Features Grain Bin Rescue Training

Agricultural professionals who have not learned how to use grain bin rescue equipment can do so while learning about emerging precision agriculture applications and seed-applied technologies.

The Mississippi State University Extension Service and Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station invite seed and agricultural industry professionals, stakeholders, producers, crop consultants and research professionals to attend the 2023 MSU Seed and Agricultural Technology Short Course Aug. 1-2.

The course’s first day will be at the Bost Extension Conference Center at MSU. On the second day, the course moves to East Mississippi Community College’s Communiversity campus, where the hands-on demonstration of grain bin safety and entrapment rescue techniques will take place.

Participants will learn about basic considerations for seed-applied technologies, including seed treatment processes and application equipment, biological and microbial seed treatment opportunities, safe use and environmental stewardship of treated seed, policy and regulatory issues related to treated seed, and state and federal seed laws.

Unmanned aircraft system applications and regulations, prescriptive planting technologies for seed and crop production, and long-range meteorology platforms will also be discussed.

The $50 registration fee covers the short course lecture sessions, printed materials, breakfast and lunch each day and a dinner after the first day.
