A successful growing season begins with a strong foundation

Growers report stronger roots, better disease control after applying Headline® fungicide from BASF in-furrow

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, November 4, 2013 – With this season’s harvest nearing an end, growers reflecting on the 2013 season say the use of Headline® fungicide at planting helped their corn crop start strong.

“Research has shown Headline fungicide applied in-furrow in corn improves seedling health and allows for more rapid and uniform emergence – even under the cold and wet conditions that growers experienced early in this season,” said Caren Schmidt, Ph.D., Technical Market Manager, BASF.

Applying Headline fungicide in-furrow helps minimize the effects of soil-borne diseases and adverse growing conditions, while also providing Plant Health benefits, including more vigorous, healthy roots.

For North Dakota corn grower David Hartz, focusing on a great start is the first step to ensuring a successful growing season.

“With the price of corn changing every year, we had to look at different ways of protecting our seed investment and input costs,” Hartz said. “After we applied Headline fungicide in-furrow, we noticed that there was a more vigorous plant that came up quicker. It looked like a much healthier plant when it emerged from the soil, too. The added input cost is definitely worth the return that we see.”

Headline fungicide can be tank mixed with liquid fertilizers at planting, provides growers with an efficient way to reduce disease pressures and increase yields. To maximize the in-furrow application, Headlinefungicide should cover each seed and the surrounding soil, forming a zone of protection for each emerging seedling.

Growers looking for maximum disease protection for their corn crops throughout the growing season can also follow up with Priaxor®fungicide pre-tassel, and Headline AMP® fungicide at tassel.
